TexMex bean dish from the wok

No, not chili con carne, because this is a barbecue side dish where the meat is prepared separately. Moreover, chili (meaning pepper) in this context does not refer so much to pepper, but to chili powder (a mixture of spices) which is also an important flavoring in chili con carne as we eat it in the Netherlands and Belgium, with (brown) beans in other words. Officially, beans do not belong in chili con carne, but if they are added they should actually be pinta beans. I used kidney beans. These have fairly little flavor of their own, but have the ability to take on flavors from other ingredients in a dish. To make it all even more misleading: The Mex in Texmex has very little to do with Mexico and everything to do with Texas. Many dishes of TexMex cuisine are unknown in Mexico (such as chili con carne) or are prepared completely differently there.
