Can I use wood chips for a fire?

You can use wood chips IN a fire, to produce smoke, but you cannot start a fire with them. They burn very quickly and produce no heat at all. Therefore, wood chips are not intended as fuel, but to release aroma and flavor flavors during indirect grilling or smoking. The same goes for bags of small wood chunks and wood moss.

Adding wood chips (or wood moss) while grilling on high heat is a pure waste of money. This is because they are completely burned in no time before the smoke aroma penetrates to the meat.
